Teens and Plastic Surgery - Featuring Teen Rhinoplasty

Each year nearly half a million teens undergo some sort of plastic surgery. Recent statistics indicate that the rates for teen plastic surgery is increasing at 50% or more per year and probably some of this increase is due to reality TV programming.

Typically teens or younger children will present for reshaping of their noses or ears. They may also request chin implants, treatment for acne or acne scarring or plastic surgery for inherited facial features. We typically see many teens and young adults for Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping).

Mallory came to us last year and had suffered from nasal stuffiness, allergies and congestion for many years and wanted relief from her breathing blockage. She also pointed out that the teen years (and ethnic heritage) had brought a bump on the bridge of her nose and she sought advice on changing that feature.

Our examination showed that she had a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates which blocked her breathing passages. After a long discussion we elected to schedule her for her medically necessary surgery as well as her Rhinoplasty. Mallory liked the fact that Dr. Gentile was patient, gentle and explained everything that would happen before and after the surgery so that there were no surprises. She gave high marks to the staff who also answered all her questions and helped to perk her up before and after her surgery.

Mallory’s advice to others contemplating Rhinoplasty surgery is to be honest with the Dr. telling him why certain features bother you and then work with the Dr. in determining the best way to correct things. She also believes in being honest about your choice to make a change in your personal appearance. Mallory is proud of her decision to make a change and loves her result. Mom and Dad approve too and sometimes they catch themselves staring at their beautiful young daughter.
